    Reserve Fire Fighter

    Responsible for providing emergency medical care and first aid to victims. Assists paramedics in stabilizing and readying victims for transport. Performs duties related to fire suppression in vehicles, buildings, and outdoor settings. Performs rescues from automobiles, collapsed structures, and water. Ensures positive relations are maintained with the public. Effectively operates and maintains rescue and firefighting equipment. Must be able to respond to emergencies as necessary and must work duty time as per departmental requirements. Shifts are 24 hours shifts.


    1. Assumes responsibility for providing emergency medical care to victims of fires, automobile crashes, and other types of accidents.

    a. Assesses condition of victims and provides first aid treatment and basic life support as necessary.

    b. Assists paramedics in performing other emergency procedures as needed.

    c. Stabilizes and provides support to victims until transport to a medical facility. Acts with courtesy and sensitivity.

    d. Follows established policies, procedures, and safety measures when providing emergency services.

    2. Assumes responsibility for performing duties related to fire suppression and rescues.

    a. Responds promptly to fire and rescue calls including auto accidents, fires, collapsed buildings, and water rescues.

    b. Performs effective fire suppression and rescue activities as trained.

    c. Uses fire fighting and rescue equipment properly. Performs required cleaning and maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Operates radio and other communication equipment.

    d. Follows procedures and safety measures as trained during firefighting and rescue incidents.

    e. Drives fire and rescue vehicles as assigned. Follows safe driving procedures.

    3. Assumes responsibility for maintaining and establishing good relations with the public and other public safety providers.

    a. Projects a professional image to the public.

    b. Works effectively with police, paramedics, and other personnel.

    c. Answers questions and resolves problems promptly.

    d. Provides fire prevention and safety education to schools and other groups as requested.

    e. Ensures appropriate levels of security and confidentiality are maintained.

    4. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Agency personnel and management.

    a. Assists and supports related departments as required.

    b. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant concerns.

    c. Attends and participates in meetings as required

    d. Completes reports, records, and other documentation as required.

    5. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

    a. Performs cleaning, housekeeping, and maintenance duties at fire station as assigned.

    b. Participates in classroom and practical training exercises in firefighting, rescue, emergency medical care, and other related subjects at the public safety facility and other locations as necessary.

    c. Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
    Position Requirements  

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Valid driver’s license. – Class B

    Emergency medical care and first aid certifications.

    Prefer fire training and certifications: Fire Fighter I, II; Driver/Operator, EMT but will train the right person in house.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: No specific work experience required.

    Must be 18 years of age

    SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent verbal communication skills.

    Good interpersonal and public relations skills.

    Ability and desire to learn and attain fire service certifications.

    Ability to follow detailed, established procedures and instructions.

    Ability to recognize and resolve problems in rescue situations.

    Ability to exercise sound judgment.

    Ability to perform strenuous physical effort during emergencies and training for prolonged periods of time.

    Ability to perform duties at extreme heights, during intense heat, cold, smoke or other hazardous conditions.

    Able to work well independently and as a team.

    Ability to remain calm and perform duties under extreme conditions.

    Ability to operate related equipment.
