CHAMBER COFFEE AND RIBBON CUTTING HOSTED BY AL & LU NIECE
The Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce invites members and guests to a Chamber Coffee this Thursday, December 4th, at 8am hosted by Al & Lu Niece. The coffee will take place in the historic Schultz-Paine Building, at the corner of 6th and Main St. Coffee, juice, and light refreshments will be served, and attendees will have the opportunity to win a door prize drawing.
Originally built in 1889 by owner A. B. Paine, the Schultz-Paine Building served as both a printing shop and apartments when first constructed. Over the years, the red-brick structure has stood as part of Fort Scott’s rich architectural legacy. The building sits three blocks south of Fort Scott’s Downtown Historic District which includes dozens of late-1800s and early-1900s buildings, reflecting styles like Victorian, Italianate, and Romanesque that bring alive local heritage.
Today, after extensive renovation and preservation, the Schultz-Paine Building is ready for a new chapter. The ground floor will soon welcome Lu's Ice Cream, while the upstairs features two loft apartments, and future plans include a speakeasy in the basement.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow the Chamber Coffee, symbolizing both the rebirth of a historic building and Lu’s Ice Cream to open soon.
This event provides an opportunity for Chamber members and guests to connect, celebrate local development, and stay informed on community updates. The Chamber extends its sincere gratitude to Al and Luanna Niece for their dedication to preserving Fort Scott’s historic properties. In addition to their renovation of the Schultz-Paine Building, the Nieces also own the River Room Event Center/Brickstreet BBQ building at 3 W. Oak St. Their first local endeavor - acquiring Klein Products, now operating as Niece Products in the Industrial Park - marked the start of a long-standing commitment to Fort Scott. We are fortunate that their interest and investment have continued to grow far beyond that initial project.
