TOPIC: Tick Informational Event by K-State Experts
Timber Hills Lake Ranch and the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce invite Chamber members, physicians, medical staff, veterinarians, farmers, ranchers, and the general public to a presentation by leading tick experts regarding the tick population and its impact to animals and humans.
On Monday, March 27th from 5 to 6pm Dr. Michael Dryden and Dr. Kathryn Reif from Kansas State University will present an overview of tick ecology, diseases transmitted, and protection from tick attachment. Attendees are invited to stay following the presentation until 7pm for appetizers, drinks and entertainment.
Dr. Michael W. Dryden is a University Distinguished Professor in Veterinary Parasitology at Kansas State University. His primary research focus has been the biology and control of flea and tick infestation of dogs and cats. Dr. Kathryn E. Reif is an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. Her research includes the tick-borne bacterial pathogens, the tick-borne protozoal pathogens, the flea-borne pathogen, and mosquito-borne West Nile virus.
Timber Hills Lake Ranch is located at 1369 Valley Road northwest of Fort Scott. Those attending may drive their own vehicle or meet at the Chamber at 4:30pm to carpool. If a minimum of 10 pre-register we can take the trolley which will leave from the Chamber promptly at 4:30pm and return at 7:30pm.
