Park Rangers in Training
Fort Scott Kan. – Registration is now open for Fort Scott National Historic Site’s fun-filled summer day camp program for youth ages 9-12. The Fort Scott’s Park Rangers in Training, formally Trailblazers, will run August 8-12 from 8:30 am until noon each day. To sign-up for this free program, contact Fort Scott National Historic Site at (620) 223-0310 or email fosc_interpretation@nps.gov with your name, participant’s name, and phone number.
“Camp Director Bristol will immerse participants in the stories of the fort while they are dressed in living history clothing, explore the plants and animals of the tallgrass prairie, get their hands dirty in a mock archeological dig for artifacts, and plenty more!” said Carl Brenner, Acting Superintendent, Fort Scott National Historic Site.
Participants will be sent an informational packet after registration is complete. Space is limited to 12 participants.
The National Park Service protects many of America’s most valuable natural and cultural resources and tells its most compelling stories. However, America’s most treasured resource, and its best hope for the future, are its children. This summer you are invited to introduce your child to the resources and stories of Fort Scott National Historic Site.
From April 1-October 31, Fort Scott National Historic Site, a unit of the National Park Service, will be open for its summer hours of operation. The site exhibit areas and visitor center are open daily from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Park grounds are open daily from a half hour before sunrise until a half hour after sunset. To find out more or become involved in activities at the Fort, please contact the park at 620-223-0310 or visit our website at www.nps.gov/fosc.
