Read the 1963 novel and/or view the 1969 film, available on Amazon Prime, then join museum Curator Aileen June Wang, K-State English Associate Professor Katherine Karlin, and K-State Libraries Associate Professor Tara Coleman for a discussion on this story based on the childhood of Gordon Parks in Fort Scott, KS. Parks survived poverty and racist brutality to become a pre-eminent photojournalist, composer, and filmmaker.
