    Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. (HREC), a member-owned electric distribution utility serving southeast Kansas, is seeking qualified applicants for an Apprentice Tree Trimmer position based out of our Fort Scott facility.

    Major Duties:

    • Operates tools and equipment necessary to clear utility right-of-way through cutting, climbing, dragging, and chipping brush and trees. Includes operation of bucket trucks, chippers, chip trucks, skid steers, chainsaws, and climbing tools.
    • Applies chemicals for the control of brush and trees in rights-of-way using recommended techniques and caution for the environment.
    • Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Communicates necessary information to landowners, supervisors, and client representatives regarding right-of-way clearing. Notifies landowners prior to beginning work.
    • Performs additional duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Have and maintain a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.
    • Shall be trained and required to perform First Aid, CPR and Bucket Truck rescue at required intervals.
    • Ability to perform work out of a bucket within the recommended weight limitations set by the manufacturer.

    Physical Demands:

    • Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, drag, talk and hear.
    • Frequently lifts, drags, and/or moves up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally lifts, drags and/or moves up to one hundred (100) pounds.
