    About Us

Judy Marshall is a treasure in our community and has authored several books including “Legends & Lore of Bourbon County” which we have for sale at the Chamber or Hedgehog.INK! and a portion of the proceeds benefits the Fort Scott Area Community Foundation.

Judy is also an active Rotarian in the Fort Scott Rotary Club.

Legends & Lore of Bourbon County: Stories of the early days in Bourbon County, Kansas … from the Osage Indians to the men who rode the railroad, and much much more. Judy Marshall not only researched the legends and lore of the region’s history but also added a new focus on its ghostly past and present. Ghosts, bank robbers, hobos, famous residents, kids scaling bridges – all come to life in the stories frequently told by the people who experienced the event.

Judy's Bio.: Judy Marshall grew up in El Dorado, Kansas, and attended Kansas University where she obtained a degree in Secondary Education with a major in English. In 1979, when she and her husband Bob were living in Kansas City, she was a winner in a writing contest, sponsored by the Kansas City Star newspaper. In 1987 and 1988, after she and her husband had moved to North Carolina, she was a winner in statewide short story fiction competitions, sponsored by the North Carolina Writers’ Network and the North Carolina Arts Council. In 1994, after a move back to Kansas, she had a novel published for middle grade readers which was included in the list sent to Kansas school libraries, recommending books published by Kansas authors. She and her husband have lived in the Fort Scott area since 1998.
